Broom 45-60cms
A native evergreen shrub that produces golden yellow flowers in May-June and is noted for attracting much wildlife, bees in particular. Broom is good for the reclamation of soil with few nutrients, making it ideal for the stabilisation of embankments, dunes and slopes. It will improve soil that is low in nitrogen with its nodules, and grows well under tall conifers. The flower buds can be pickled and used as a substitute for capers!
