These are our Common Alder - Alnus glutinosa - 40-60cms
Alder leaves are deciduous (not evergreen), alternate, simple, and serrated. The flowers are catkins with elongate male catkins on the same plant as shorter female catkins, often before leaves appear; they are mainly wind-pollinated, but also visited by bees to a small extent. They differ from the birches (Betula, the other genus in the family) in that the female catkins are woody and do not disintegrate at maturity, opening to release the seeds in a similar manner to many conifer cones
These are fully hardy field Grown Broadleaves.
Once these Broadleaves have made root in the soil you can expect them to grow an average of 2ft per year.
We would advise planting these every 2ft (60cms) to give you a good hedge.
We advise using a support cane & ties for the first 12 months until the broadleaves have made root in the soil.
We would advise to give the best possible start to use Merediths Plant food, which is a slow release food, and RHS Rootgrow™ Gel to help the broadleaves make better root in the soil.
These broadleaves are supplied bare root in bags, and will need to be signed for.
